Come to Morro Bay

A lovely coastal town

overcast 23 °C

Had the day in Morro Bay. Great chance to recharge the batteries after the hectic pace of Disneyland. It's a lovely little town on the California central coast about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. A huge rock dominates the view towards the sea from the town. This thing is BIG. The town has a great little harbour (reminded me of Laureton on the NSW central coast) on one side of the big rock and a good surf beach on the other side, Currently, they've been experiencing southern swells (apparently from some weather system off New Zealand) and getting 10-12' waves! Gnarly but the surfers are stoked, dude! The swell is just dying down now but the beach looked pretty busy today. Even though for us it felt like Winter, there were still plenty of people "sunning" themselves and swimming. The weather has been strange to us but n othing different for the locals. This big fog bank hugs the coast really tightly. You can see the blue sky inland and the locals tell us that it would be hot and sunny 20 miles away but cold and windy on the coast.

There were also some local markets in the main street. The produce is sensational!! Some of the best strawberries and peaches we've ever tasted. There was a thing called a Fruity Grenade which is like a combination of a plum and an apricot. it tasted fantastic. Guacomole dips, fresh orange juice, locally made corn chips - this place has us all drooling! We even bought some basil and lime lemonade from an organic farm near Malibu. Different but good! Bananas are selling at the local shops for about $2.50 a kilo. A good sight cheaper than they were selling for in Australia before we left.

The kids and Lesley want to get up early tomorrow to feed the squirrels (see Giaan's blog entry) and then the driving begins again...
Oh, yeah...Robbo's birthday was a bit of mix-up and looks like he's been ripped off for Father's Day. In the US, it's celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in JUNE!! Is there no justice??

Will write more from Monterey!! Thanks for reading and all comments have been gratefully read.
